ERYTHEMA NODOSUM
Essentials of Diagnosis
•
It is a symptom complex of tender, erythematous nodules
on extensor surface of lower legs.
•
It lasts for six weeks and may reoccur.
•
Slow regression over several weeks.
•
Lesions of 1 -10 cm are pink to red.
Treatment
o
Treat the underlying cause.
o
Primary therapy is with nonsteroidal
anti-inflammatory agents.
o
Standard solution of Potassium iodide 5-15 drops
three times daily.
o
In painful lesions complete bed rest is advised.
o
Systemic corticosteroids may be given.
